Cavallo celebrates the year of the horse

Growing up in the US, I really had no idea who big of deal Lunar New Year is in the Asian culture. This year, businesses shut down for 9 days (February 15-23) to allow time for people to feast and celebrate with family. Imagine that. Countries collectively shutting down so that people can partake in tradition.

In an effort to instill some cultural awareness in my kids, we partake in a few select rituals during this time of year. All cleaning happens before new year’s day. I remind them to wear read for good luck. They demand red envelopes to replenish funds. We share a meal of noodles (signifying longevity) and rice cake (a homonym for “a better year”). And that’s about it.

This year, as I was resting from our labors, it dawned on me that Shadow Magnets has a character perfectly suited for 2026.
